RIBA North West and Hobs Studio partnership announcement

RIBA North West and Hobs Studio partnership announcement

RIBA North West and Hobs Studio, part of the Hobs Reprographics plc Group, have agreed to operate in partnership during 2014 to support the development of a range of events, activities and support solutions for RIBA Members in the North West. There will be a particular focus on Building Information Modelling (BIM) and 3D technologies, looking at how both organisations can work together to further the knowledge and understanding of BIM and associated technologies as a key tool for collaborative working within the profession. The partnership will also see Hobs Studio become a supporter of the RIBA Hub on Portland Street in Manchester, and both partners will look to identify ways in which the facility can be utilised to deliver the planned activities during the year.

The partnership will be officially launched at an event at Hobs Studio in Manchester on Thursday 20 March at 5.30pm, followed by a tour of the Hobs Studio’s BIM Technologies. If you’re interested in attending this free event you can book online via https://riba-hobsstudio.eventbrite.co.uk

Andrew Ruffler, Regional Director of RIBA North West, commented “I am delighted to be able to announce details of this partnership in 2014. Hobs have been a long-standing supporter of RIBA North West and our Chartered Members across the region, and this agreement looks to formalise elements of the relationship in 2014. It allows us to focus resources on a number of strategic priorities; namely broadening the understanding and adoption of BIM and associated technology solutions, and how this links to the changing procurement agenda, nationally and internationally. The partnership also allows us to continue to use the RIBA Hub on Portland Street in Manchester as a focal point for Member activities, including the recently launched Architecture School for Children project.

Mo Isap, Director of Group Strategy for Hobs, said “We are thrilled that our partnership has a common goal for both organisations; to support the design and architectural sector in embracing and adopting BIM and to provide practical applications of the latest 3D technologies. The move to working in BIM can be challenging but is also full of opportunities and rewards for everyone concerned”.

Hobs has worked with architects and construction companies since 1969, traditionally meeting their reprographics, digital printing, graphic design and bid support needs, and this continues to be the core services offered through 23 operations across the UK.

Mo explains, “As an Autodesk Gold Partner and the European market leader for Autodesk Buzzsaw, Hobs Studio has the technology and expertise to support a project across all of the RIBA stages. We understand the changes in the industry and have invested heavily in Hobs Studio to meet these future needs”. Hobs Studio uniquely brings together 3D data capture through Laser Scanning, 3D Revit Modelling, CGI’s , Animations, Augmented Reality and, of course, 3D printing. Alongside these BIM technologies Hobs Studio also offers BIM consultancy, training and implementation. This partnership will allow RIBA North West members easy access to knowledge, including regular CPD and seminar programs, and to 3D services through Hobs Studio in Manchester and five other Hobs operations across the North West.
